Summary of the master project:
A correct description of the flow of natural gas in pipelines is very
important for Gasunie. The flow of gas can be described by
conservation of impuls and mass. We restrict ourselves to a
one-dimensional approach, where friction is modelled by a friction
factor.
These equations can be solved by a numerical method. If a pipeline
becomes leaky, a formula is used to determine the flow of the gas
leaking out
of the pipeline.
The aim of the master thesis is:
- A description and improvement of the current simulation package.
-
An improvement of the transient behavior of the simulated solution.
- Inclusion of the enthalpy equation, in order to model the
temperature of the gas in the simulation.
